Love this little concept.
A timely reminder by a gorgeous young lady about “The power of the pause” to celebrate the good times but also a great tool to practice self-care, and manage thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Love this little concept. Acid Alkaline balance It's only in the last few years I realised I have bones - shoulders, knees and hips. Recently I was talking to an elderly person who had brittle bones and realised for a long time she had a lot of stress and digestive problems. A PH basics, knowledge is a simple approach that can be used every day for health and well-being. Our Standard Australian Diet (SAD) is a bit more acidic; combined with our stress-induced lifestyle over a long period can cause damage by constant leeching of nutrients to keep us alkaline. We can relieve this acidic burden. Your body will thank you in the long run! Bristol Stool chart We wrapped up our research project last week. Thanks to everyone who participated, it was greatly appreciated. One of the tools we used was the Bristol Stool chart. I might share it with some additional information. The Bristol Stool Chart is widely used as a research tool to evaluate the effectiveness of treatments for various diseases of the bowel. The chart describes the shapes and types of stools and what they mean to our health. It is also used as a tool to diagnose constipation, diarrhoea and irritable bowel syndrome and the impact of these on health and well-being. As we welcome winter, it can be an opportunity for some of us to start prepping for the slower days to be a time for rest and renewal with warming healing foods and lifestyle changes. The Gift of Winter. Lazy days spent reading with soft music, candles flickering, comforting fires, heart-warming food and sounds of nature. Feeling the cold air, the welcoming platter of the rain. I am reading “Seeds to Dust” by Marc Hamer, who was homeless but developed a love of books and gardening. I adore his style of writing, where he brings the ordinary to feel extraordinary. Combined with watching the RHS Chelsea Flower show on Brit box, which this year like Marc Hamer is a celebration of the weeds and a focus to be wilder and naturalistic. Describes my garden to a T. On a more serious note. As we welcome winter and start prepping for the slower days it can be a time for rest and renewal. Several studies have shown we have enhanced mental function during the winter, providing more opportunities to rest and benefit from a period of slower recuperation while continuing to operate at a high level. (NHAA) Naturopathic Symposium gala dinner 27 05 2023 Oh, What a night! Feeling humbled and grateful to be invited as a guest for the Naturopath & Herbalists Association of Australia's (NHAA) Naturopathic Symposium gala dinner and 2023 Awards for Excellence in the industry. The most amazing, full of knowledge peers at our table with lots of laughs, sharing information, great food and drinks. Loved the night. Fantastic to see the ever-humble Professor Kerry Bone the founding father of Medi-herb get an award. I was so lucky a few years ago with some other naturopaths to be invited to meet Kerry and visit the Mediherb testing, research and manufacturing facilities in QLD. (It was like a kid in a candy shop) OMG! had a quick chat with my herbal medicine lecturer Ian Breakspear who collected multiple awards. He has the same passion and drive as he did when I studied under him. I was so surprised that he actually remembered me but we both had a laugh about my unexpected pregnancy in my final year of full-time study over 21 years ago. Saving the best for last it was awesome catching up with our gorgeous son (21 years old lol), who took a break from Uni to join us for a delicious Argentinian feast at Southbank. Awesome weekend. For some of us, this is the time we celebrate the incredible women who helped raise and support us. For those whose mums have passed, it is a time of reminiscing. For some, this is a difficult time of disappointment. Whatever this Mother’s Day may mean for you my sincere hope is that you find the strength and resilience in yourself to live your Best Life. Have an awesome Mother’s Day 2023. Love these touching poems written by Rob Aitchison for his grandfather and Hayley & Lachy. Beautiful day to remember.
Perimenopause, a time to thrive Recently at lunch, a colleague and I got the giggles reading the article " Perimenopause, a time to thrive" but by the time we analysed the article and the research we both decided that with a few specific inclusions and exclusions women can thrive in their prime. Love this quote on this glorious day. Have an awesome week. " Life has no remote control. Get up and change it yourself". A few years ago I spent 10 long months doing a comprehensive course on maximizing the potential of genetic testing to personalize patient health and wellness outcomes. I am always amazed at the continuous advances in science and research. So on a gloomy day in Ballarat, I thought I would revisit it. It is that time of the year when we all start to feel gluggy and want to detox for multiple reasons. Our signature 6-week comprehensive all-inclusive detox program includes an assessment, consultations, detox supplements /products that do the work for you and much more. Invest in your health and well-being. To get the full program at the current price please book at jacquifernandez.com.au/book-an-appointment.html I love this time of the year when a lot of us practice manifestation through visualization to create clear connections for our future by planning to propel our minds into action. Personally, I often have to remind myself that, " Vision without action is a dream. ( I spend a lot of time doing this) Action without Vision is passing time Action with vision is making a positive difference" Have a great day! Jacqui Mango memories! A childhood memory of hot summers climbing up a mango tree while being chased by a family friend's dog. Love seasonal fruits and mangoes appear to be flooding the market at 1/2 doz for $6 or $1.80 each. I have shared multiple ways I use this delicious summer fruit from eating it straight to serving it up. Buy firm fruit with beautiful yellow or red skin. The smell will let you know if they are ripe and will be slightly soft to the touch The Christmas season is seen as a joyous time of the year for some of us, but it can be challenging and stressful for some of us. Here are some tips to avoid the stress of the Christmas season and give yourself the gift of Self- Care and kindness. Design Your Life! Fresh out of Uni, barefoot and pregnant, filled with a passion and commitment for change; along with a truckload of hope and fear we arrived in Ballarat 21 years ago (Dec 2001). We signed on the dotted line for a clinic and a lifestyle property surrounded by paddocks and welcomed our gorgeous son all in the same month! Was some of it hard? Absolutely. Was some stuff Challenging? Definitely. But we loved this city, loved the land and I couldn’t be happier in the Clinic surrounded by my herbs and portions and crafting the beautiful herbal formulas. Loved it. The alternative was suburban living with all the dramas, working as a glorified bean counter, and hubby commuting as a ‘Pitt Street Banker’ watching the planes land and take off from his high-rise city office. Giving me a country life any day! We absolutely and definitely designed the life we wanted, when we dared to dream it and put it into action with very few regrets. Dare to dream! A friend told me that after 40, it's all downhill. Well, 15 years later I know exactly what she meant. I now know I have knees, hips, a back and joints. Ouch! Just a quick introduction to let you know that I have teamed up with Dr Wayne McDonald whom I worked with at the medical centre here in Ballarat. Dr McDonald is the director of Redcliffe Cannabis Clinic in sunny QLD and is a Medical Cannabis Authorised Prescriber who offers telehealth appointments, more information on his website at https://www.redcliffecannabisclinic.com.au/ Distinctly remember doing a case study of a young guy with Crohn's disease as a student and my heart went out to this stressed-out hypothetical case. All digestive problems can be stressful, disruptive and emotionally challenging at times but prevention is better than cure in the long run. Get to know your body, and what works for you and just do it. A lot of us watched in horror when Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars. The excuse Will Smith gave was witnessing his father who was a bully. The bystander effect. There are no winners, although complex when broken down we can see bullies when we look in the mirror (ourselves), parents, siblings, children, relatives, friends, peers and colleagues. " Strong people stand up for themselves but THE strongest people stand up for others". Have an awesome day. Medicinal cannabis. As a naturopath, I get asked about medicinal Cannabis a lot. Medicinal cannabis can only be prescribed by a registered medical practitioner (not naturopaths) after a thorough assessment to decide if the treatment is appropriate for the patient’s condition and individual circumstances. The medicinal cannabis hub brings together information on the regulation of medicinal cannabis in Australia along with guidance material and information resources. Please check out government websites for any further information and research from reputable sites. Simple Wellness. Short, sharp and shiny, love books, and love quotes, so I used them here for simple wellness. Over the years I have found them an inspiration and guiding light in times of solitude, gratitude, crossroads of life, joy and challenging times. When I decided to change the course of my life I kept saying "it's a bigger risk not to take the risk". Pelvic Floor $300 million may not cut it for a lot of women who have suffered from the pelvic mesh. Facing a patient, post prostate surgery the despair was palpable; but with a few astringent herbs (herbal medicine) and exercise, we said goodbye to nappy days. Incorporating a few pelvic floor exercises into your daily routine will save you a lot of problems in the future. There are plenty of FREE online pelvic floor exercises that will suit your individual needs. All the best! Happy Dance! Hello Spring. So excited and nervous. A GRATITUDE STORY a very very dear 90-year-old neighbour and friend Vicky is flying solo to Switzerland today. Love her so much. She grew up during the war. She is not visiting her family but the family who sheltered her during the war. How grateful is that! I am grateful for the little things in my life, the joy of seeing our dam overflow, the slow arousing of nature as the stark branches burst into life in an abundance of white and pink, snowdrops and wildflowers. Not the perfect garden but a loved one. Love it, love it. We are seeing more patients with Psychosomatic disorders; this confirms the research that shows an association between COVID/current economic climate and increased psychosomatic illnesses due to moderate to high levels of stress. Ride it out, it will pass but here are some bits and tips. Have an awesome weekend, spring is around the corner. How lucky are we in Ballarat to have the 4 seasons? Living on our little farm gives me immense joy to see the changing seasons in the gardens, paddocks, weather, food, and activities. At the moment nothing gives me more joy than curling up on a comfy chair in front of the fire with a great book. Love the rhythm of the seasons. |
