​Last week, I did a Menopause Management Intensive webinar by Dr Tamara Dickson MD, who among other things teaches at Bastyr University USA. She presented the latest research providing insight into the causes of some of the symptoms and the treatment plans for the management of Menopause. Loved it, so I thought I would share some information ......

Perimenopause is the two to eight years preceding menopause and one year following final menses. Most women become menopausal between ages 45-60. Average age of menopause in Australia and New Zealand is 51
Menopause. Symptoms & Management
Symptoms. Hot flushes Night sweats Sleep problems Anxiety & Mood problems Sense of overwhelm  Easy weight gain  Tiredness Hair loss & thinning Acne & Skin changes  Abnormal skin sensations Headaches  Aches & pains muscle & joints Poor memory & Concentration Foggy brain Vaginal dryness  Dysparenunia (painful sex) Low libido  Urinary Tract infections  Higher blood pressure  Higher cholesterol  Diabetes
How long do symptoms last.  Symptoms may continue for an average of four to five years, but they decrease in frequency and intensity with the  RIGHT MANAGEMENT . Research indicates that   Black & white women reported greater symptoms of Hot flushes, insomnia and pain clusters compared to Asian women  Financial strain, most strongly related to symptom severity   Current & past smokers more likely to have severe symptoms  Obese women were 80% more likely to have moderate symptoms
What is Menopause  The menopause is sometimes called ‘the change of life’ as it marks the end of a woman’s reproductive life. At menopause, ovulation no longer occurs and production of oestrogen and progesterone ceases.  Most women become menopausal naturally between the ages of 45 and 55 years, with the average age of onset at around 50 years.
